Hello, we are Russ and Rosan Sprinkles. We grew up in Gaston County and are high school sweet hearts from South Point High School in Belmont, NC. After high school, Russ left to go to NC State for his studies while Rosan attended Belmont Abbey College. Russ graduated from North Carolina State University in 1996 with his Bachelors Degree in Animal Science (Summa Cum Laude). He then went on to the North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine to obtain his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 2000 where he graduated in the top 10% of his class (Summa Cum Laude). Rosan went on to get a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business from Belmont Abbey College. Rosan has a background in human medicine and has learned a great deal about veterinary medicine in the last few years. Together we have a son named Caden. He is now thirteen years old and we love spending time as a family when we are not working. He loves to do all of the normal things that kids his age do. He is especially talented in the area of music and drama. Caden has truly been a blessing to both of us. People always want to know how many pets we have at home. Most all of our pets have joined us via the phrase, “let’s just keep it until we find a good home”. Years later, they are still with us. Right now we three cats, Laura, Mia and Jasper, a very energetic rescue puppy named Darcy, and three fish. We will probably end up having a lot more pets as Caden gets a little older. When we have free time from work, we like to go to Putt Putt, watch movies, go camping, mountain biking, and just enjoy God’s many blessings around us.
We opened Grace Animal Hospital in December of 2006. After a long search of trying to find the right location for us, we found it here! We have come to meet and know so many wonderful people that will hopefully be lifetime friends. Thanks to all of you for being such great clients. We appreciate your business and look forward to being here for many years to come. Our dream of opening a veterinary hospital has come true and we owe it to God and our wonderful clients.
Matthew Woods, DVM
Hello! My name is Dr. Matt Woods and I am excited to be joining the staff of Grace Animal Hospital in April of 2018. I was born and raised in Gastonia and call this home. My undergraduate studies were done in Biology at the University of North Carolina Charlotte (Magna Cum Laude). I received my doctorate of veterinary medicine from the University of Georgia School of Veterinary Medicine in 2005 (Summa Cum Laude). Upon graduating veterinary school, my family and I moved to Charlotte, NC where I have been practicing for the last 13 years. In 2009, we relocated back home to Gaston County to be closer to family and love now being able to practice so close to home. My wife Ashley and I have two sons, Jonathan and Ethan. We love spending time out doors together, especially camping, hiking, golfing, and traveling any chance we get. We have 2 wonderful rescue pups, Penny and Georgia as well as a cat named Oscar that has been with me for 18 years and is still going strong.
Elena Shirley, DVM
Hi, my name is Dr. Elena Shirley. I earned my Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of California Davis School of Veterinary Medicine. I have practiced small animal medicine and surgery in both general practice and emergency practice for the last nine years. My professional passions in veterinary practice include: Integrated medicine, surgery, acupuncture in orthopedic and neurologic disease, and ophthalmology. I completed specialty certification in veterinary acupuncture in 2014. Incorporating this modality has provided optimal pain management with no side effects, created rapid return to function and speeded recovery for countless patients over my career. In addition to veterinary medicine, I have been an invited speaker in veterinary medical schools in both the USA and South America, and coauthored a publication in the Journal of Veterinary Internal Medicine. I believe that success is about we, not me. Your input and teamwork makes all the difference to me in the practice of veterinary medicine. In my personal life, I am blessed with the love of my life, beautiful children, wonderful family and friends, near and around the globe, and critters of all shapes and sizes that leave paw prints on our hearts.

Hi, my name is Megan Smith and I have been a registered vet tech since 2012. I love Jesus very much, along with my husband Jay, our dog Kevin and 2 horses Bert and Hank. I grew up right up the road in Lincoln county where my love for animals started at a young age. Our house was never without all kinds of dogs and cats, goats, hermit crabs, a turtle, a rabbit, and a rooster, not to mention all the outdoor wildlife you get to experience when living in the country. At age 10 I started riding horses and have not looked back since. I found that I had a love for working with animals so I decided to become a vet tech. In my time away from work I enjoy spending time with my husband, riding horses, watching Downton Abbey and being with my Parkwood Baptist family. I am grateful to be a part of Grace Animal Hospital’s team and look forward to serving you and your pets to the best of my ability.
